In a message posted on the social network X, Olivier Faure announced that the Socialist Party will reject the Yadan law, accused by its detractors of making “an amalgam between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.”
The Socialist Party will vote against the Yadan draft law, brought by the deputy apparent Ensemble for the Republic Caroline Yadan and aiming to combat “renewed forms” of anti-Semitism.
“The socialist group will vote against the Yadan PPL. Decision made this morning almost unanimously,” simply wrote Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the PS, on the social network X this Tuesday, April 7.
This law “represents a danger to freedom of expression”
A petition was filed on February 18 against this bill, which argues that “hatred of the state of Israel is today consubstantial with hatred of Jews.” The more than 400,000 signatories accuse this draft law of making “an amalgam between anti-Semitism and criticism of Israel (anti-Zionism).”
This law “represents a real danger to freedom of expression,” “indirectly supports the colonization of Palestine by Israel,” and “undermines the fight against anti-Semitism by assimilating Jews to Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy when many of them openly criticize this deadly policy,” can be read in the petition.
Several other left-wing politicians have already announced their opposition to this law, such as La France insoumise or ecologists like Sandrine Rousseau.
