The very likely collaboration with justice of the former head of the Brazilian bank Master, a small private establishment at the origin of the country’s largest banking fraud, has inherited, in the corridors of Brasília, the nickname of “the end of the world revelation,” as its revelations threaten to splash high-placed personalities as the upcoming general elections in October approach.
First arrested in November last year, then placed in preventive detention on March 4th, Daniel Vorcaro has been negotiating the terms of an agreement with the office of the Attorney General of the Republic and the Federal Police in recent days. To hope for sentence reductions, he will have to provide “unprecedented” evidence of the involvement of other actors, reports Folha de São Paulo.
He will also have to “show the possibility of recovering” the embezzled sums – over 12 billion reais (2 billion euros) from the sale of overvalued assets – and “look into the financial hole” after the liquidation of Master, which now exceeds 57 billion reais (9.6 billion euros). According to the newspaper, his lawyers assured that he would “spare no one.”
