“La gauche traverse sa plus grave crise politique dans l’histoire de la Ve République”

Emmanuel Grégoire, the new Mayor PS of Paris, stated on April 1st that the left’s conditions for winning the 2027 presidential election, which has “neither program nor doctrine”, are not “united”.

He explained in an interview with Nouvel Obs that at this stage, the conditions are not united for a left-wing victory next year. He criticized the upcoming left-wing primary and emphasized the importance for left-wing leaders to focus on their “economic, social, and environmental program”.

Grégoire, who won with 50.52% of the vote on March 22, made it clear that the left is losing itself in internal discussions because it has nothing to say, unlike the right and center’s candidate Rachida Dati.

Une campagne “extrêmement violente”

Emmanuel Grégoire believes that those who think that conquering major cities like Paris is a national strategy are mistaken. The electoral sociology of the capital is different from that of the country, and he warns against drifting into unrealistic strategies.

Reflecting on his victory over Rachida Dati and the Insoumise Sophia Chikirou, he felt that Dati’s campaign was too aggressive and simplistic to appeal to Parisians. Grégoire saw himself as more reassuring, composed, and serious during the campaign, characterizing it as “extremely violent”.
