Julien Aubert opposes the large primary of the right and center that several figures in his camp, including Laurent Wauquiez and David Lisnard, are calling for. The former deputy of Vaucluse believes that The Republicans should invest in Bruno Retailleau for 2027.
Less than a year before the 2027 presidential election, Bruno Retailleau still has a long way to go to hope to reach the second round. According to a recent Odoxa-Mascaret survey published on March 31st, he has 8% of the vote intentions, far behind the favorites, Édouard Philippe (21%) and Jordan Bardella (34%). However, Julien Aubert, Vice-President of LR and President of Oser la France, suggests taking these surveys “with a grain of salt.” He stated on Radio J that “All presidential elections have defied surveys published a year before.”
Regarding the primaries, Julien Aubert believes that President of LR Bruno Retailleau should be their candidate for the presidential election. He commends the “great human qualities,” “convictions,” and “work” of the former Minister of the Interior. He argues, “I think that the president of a party has the right to be the candidate for the presidential election. Only at LR does this seem strange.”
As for the center-right, different figures such as David Lisnard, Laurent Wauquiez, Gérard Larcher, and Valérie Pécresse are advocating for a large primary from Sarah Knafo (Reconquête!) to Gabriel Attal (Renaissance). However, Julien Aubert does not understand this reasoning, stating that such a method of sharing risks accelerating the disappearance of LR. He warns that if LR does not remain faithful to its political heritage, it may disappear.
