Firefighters battled a fire Tuesday at a multifamily home in Chelsea, Massachusetts.The fire started just after 4:30 a.m. at 126 Ash St. Chelsea Fire Department Chief John Quatieri said a passerby saw the flames and called 911.Video from the scene showed flames shooting from an attached porch on the back of the building. Officials said the residents were unaware of the fire until fire crews arrived and initiated a floor-by-floor evacuation of the building. “They had fire on the rear porches. The occupants were unaware of the fire at the time. They were able to get in, bang on some doors. They got everybody out safely. We were able to get the fire under control pretty quickly,” Quatieri said.Crews contained the fire to the second and third floor rear porches and prevented the fire from spreading into the living space of the building and to nearby structures, officials said. Officials said it appears the fire started on one of the porches.Twelve residents were displaced due to the fire and were placed in temporary housing while repairs are completed. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
