On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government stated that no traces of urea have been found in the suspected contaminated milk connected to the recent deaths and hospitalizations in East Godavari district. Four individuals lost their lives, and around 15 others were hospitalized after consuming the tainted milk.
Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G Veerapandian confirmed that there have been no traces of urea found in the milk related to the tragic incidents. He mentioned that immediate organ failure is unlikely if urea was mixed in the milk, as complications typically arise after prolonged consumption.
Medical experts indicated that severe complications from ethylene glycol mixed in milk may appear three to four days after consumption. Continuous health monitoring is ongoing in the affected areas, and seven individuals remain critical out of those hospitalized.
Special medicines from Chennai and Mumbai have been procured to assist in improving kidney function for the affected persons. Samples of various dairy products have been sent for testing, and a thorough inspection is underway at milk sale centers and manufacturers across the state.
Investigations are being conducted regarding a suspected coolant leakage from a freezer, potentially linked to the tragic incidents. The situation is currently under control, with coordinated efforts from various departments.
