The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred just east of Pleasant Hill. The incident took place early Thursday morning near NE 100th Street and NE University Avenue in the eastbound lanes.
Crews have closed off the eastbound lanes of University Avenue, and drivers are advised to seek an alternative route. According to recent data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 71 individuals have lost their lives on Iowa roads this year. This is 17 more than the number at the same time in 2025. Over the past five years, an average of 337 people have been fatally injured in crashes across the state.
