The area is squeezed between a strong area of high pressure to our north-northeast and a weak front to the south. This will keep the wind elevated through the night. With the northeast flow, the best chance for showers will be over NE FL tonight, with a focus along the beaches and coastal counties. The sustained winds today were between 20 to 30 mph, with recent wind gusts exceeding 50 mph.
Today, the strongest wind gust at NAS Jax and Jax International Airport was 48 mph. At NS Mayport, a wind gust of 47 mph was recorded, while Craig Field reported a gust of 52 mph.
The windy conditions will persist tomorrow, with steady winds and gusts gradually decreasing throughout the day. Showers and areas of rain will also diminish, with partly cloudy skies expected by sunset.
Marine and coastal hazards remain, including a high risk of rip currents, high surf, Small Craft Advisories, and Gale Warnings.
Tonight: Windy with periods of rain and scattered showers.
Thursday: Windy with rain and showers, then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 50s to 60s. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s inland; 60s along the beaches. Northeast winds at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain is 30 percent. It will be less windy with partly cloudy skies overnight.
Friday: Warmer under partly cloudy skies. Morning lows will be in the low 50s in inland Southeast Georgia, 50s and 60s in Northeast Florida, and 60s along the beaches. Afternoon highs will reach the 70s to low 80s. Light winds overnight with patchy fog.
