Nearly 100 minors were detained Friday night for busting into a shuttered San Jose theater with alcohol, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 9:30 p.m. to the Burbank Theater, located near the intersection of South Bascom and Parkmoor avenues, to investigate reports of trespassing. Callers reported hearing loud vehicles on Parkmoor Avenue and seeing numerous people enter the theater with alcohol, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies arrived and found a door on the south side of the theater open. They proceeded to make announcements, prompting the minors inside to try to make escape attempts, some by alternative exit doors and others via the roof, according to the sheriff’s office.
All of the minors eventually exited the theater and were detained, the sheriff’s office said.
After setting up a command post, deputies contacted the minors’ parents and asked them to come to the scene. While waiting for the parents to show up, the deputies sat the minors on a sidewalk, scolded them and told them to stay away from the property, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies searched the theater to ensure no one else was inside and also looked for any weapons. No firearms were found.
No one was injured during the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
