Important rules:
Presidential approval ratings provide a glimpse into how Americans feel about the president’s job performance on any given day, usually driven by his handling of key issues. Here’s how President Donald Trump is polling amid the Iran war, ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Despite a chaotic start to Trump’s second term, mired with mass firings of government workers, the onslaught of tariffs and trade wars, the longest government shutdown in US history, the ongoing war in Iran, and his own all-time low approval ratings this term, the Republican Party is still holding a slight favorable edge over Democrats ahead of the midterms, according to RealClearPolling.
According to this week’s most current polls, the Economist/YouGov poll reported that 35% approve of Trump’s job performance compared to 58% that do not and 7% unsure. While 60% disapprove of his handling of the war, the consensus over what party would do a better job of handling the “situation in Iran” was closer with 37% favoring Democrats, 31% favoring Republicans and 32% saying about the same.
When it came to Americans approval of how Congress is handling its job, only 11% approve compared to 63% that disapprove and 27% that were neither or unsure. Favorability among each party was similar, polling at 39%.
Favorability of the president and Congressional parties is likely to play out in the upcoming midterm elections, which could decide the fate of the Trump administration agenda or lead to another possible impeachment as the president has worried.
Here’s what the most current polls show about Trump’s presidential ratings right now, ahead of the midterms.
