Chicago’s beloved doom metal legends, Trouble, will be headlining the second night of the eighth annual Legions of Metal festival at Reggies on Saturday, May 2. It’s the band’s first-ever appearance at the famed Chicago rock club.

Initially conceived in May of 2017 by Reggies owner Robby Glick, the festival has become a destination for bands and fans of the metal scene. Organizer Robert Byrne says, “Every year, we work hard to have a mix of classic and new bands. We love pushing new talent since they will be the future torchbearers in the industry. This year, the festival is honored to have Trouble headlining.”

The festival will feature a lineup of bands such as Rhapsody of Fire, Omen, Owlbear, Nite, Luminator, Regiment, Heathen, Lords of the Trident, Void, Fires in the Distance, Wanted, Thunderforce, and Battle Chapel.

Trouble, formed in 1978, shares an allegiance with bands like Black Sabbath and St. Vitus, paving the way for the doom metal subgenre. The current lineup includes original members Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin, vocalist Kyle Thomas, bassist Rob Hultz, and drummer Garry Naples.

The band recently released a 35th-anniversary edition of their 1990 self-titled album and is working on a new album, set to be released soon.

Appearing 5/2 at Legions of Metal Festival, at Reggies, Chicago.
