On May 29, the CE and CM students went to the neighboring village of Ibos, invited by CDMDT 65, the Departmental Center for Traditional Music and Dance of the Hautes-Pyrénées.

The educational objective of this day was to diversify the areas of creation and artistic heritage covered at school, by giving them meaning and coherence through teaching and concrete educational actions.

Throughout the day, the children discovered dance, music, stories, as well as Occitan culture and language, in order to raise their awareness of the cultural and artistic richness of our territory. Divided into groups of around fifteen, they participated in different workshops focusing on practice. They listened and reproduced sounds, while seeking to understand how each instrument produces sound (wind, percussion, strings…).

The learning of songs and dances was done through oral transmission and mimicry, in a collective dynamic. The students also attended a school concert given by professional artists, a special moment which allowed them to experience music from the inside.

After the picnic shared between children and chaperones, and once the workshops were over, everyone headed towards the multipurpose room. There they found the artists, whose performances echoed the dances and songs learned during the day, but also those worked on in class beforehand.

As a finale, everyone gathered for a friendly musical moment, surrounded by creations made by the children. This day reminded us that at any age, a child can learn to play an instrument, sing or sing. There is no need to know how to read a score to enjoy making music together.
