The first visit to the new metropolitan media library in Istres, whose official opening is scheduled for May 30. A modern facility of over 4000 m², designed as a true cultural hub.
It’s done, the work is coming to an end. For the occasion, the metropolis organized a guided tour in the presence of the project architect, Christophe Gautier. At the entrance of the CEC, the building covers more than 4000m2. A significant project, with a cost of 23 million euros, financed 60% by the metropolis and 40% by the state. In a modern style, the glass facades on the south side allow the sun to enter and illuminate the space open to the pine forest.
On the ground floor, you can find a cafeteria, an auditorium capable of accommodating over 100 people, novels, tales, comics, and manga, an exhibition hall, as well as a secure area for children aged 0-6.
On the upper floor, several reading lounges, bookable glass work rooms, a digital space, and a fab-lab will allow the public to create, experiment, and make, especially with the help of digital tools and 3D printers.
A large terrace equipped with chairs and deck chairs will allow, from this summer, to enjoy a book in the sun.
The mayor of the town, François Bernardini, was present during the visit. He spoke to Maritima on the mic.
