The American president made a spectacular turnaround on Wednesday, canceling planned strikes on Iran, a few hours after announcing them.

What you need to know

Tehran announced on Friday June 12 that it had not yet decided on the agreement announced by the American president to end the war. “So far, Iran has not yet reached a final conclusion regarding the agreement”declared the spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy, Esmaeil Baqaei, to Iranian state media. Enough to temper the announcement of Donald Trump, who mentioned a signature as soon as “this weekend”. Follow our live stream.

  • Donald Trump cancels American strikes. The American president announced this spectacular turnaround on Thursday, a few hours after threatening to launch missiles at the Islamic Republic in the evening. “We have just reached a very good agreement to end the war with Iran, once the documents are finalized”he declared from the Oval Office.
  • No details have filtered out on the new agreement. The Republican leader said he believed that Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, had validated what he called “very solid framework agreement”. But he gave no details on the content of this compromise, except that it ensured an immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz after signing, and the impossibility for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
  • Iran announces the total closure of the Strait of Hormuz “until further notice”. The decision was taken on Wednesday after another night of American bombings, to which Tehran responded by striking its Gulf neighbors and Jordan.

  • #MIDDLE_EAST The Paris Stock Exchange and other main European markets are expected to rise sharply today, boosted by hopes of an agreement ending the war in the Middle East, which has led to a drop in oil prices.

  • #MIDDLE_EAST How many imminent agreements have already been announced by D Trump?

Bonjour @Olivier572. Donald Trump has already promised an imminent agreement with Iran… 38 times since the start of the conflict, according to a CNN count. We must therefore take its latest statements with a grain of salt, especially since Iran assures that it has not accepted an agreement for the moment.

  • #MIDDLE_EAST Egypt called on Washington and Tehran to seize “the opportunity” of an agreement to end the war, after the cancellation of the strikes on Iran, in a press release published late last night. The ceasefire in the Middle East, which came into force on April 8, was generally respected until last weekend, but this week was marked by a marked resumption of hostilities, more than three months after the start of the conflict.

  • #MIDDLE_EAST New statements from Donald Trump to be taken with a pinch of salt. Tehran announced that it had not yet decided on the agreement announced by the American president to end the war. The day before, Donald Trump canceled American strikes that he had threatened to launch in the evening against Iran, ensuring that common ground had been found. “We have just reached a very good agreement to end the war with Iran and, once the documents are finalized, which should be done in the next few days, we will probably have a signature, perhaps in Europe,” declared the American president from the Oval Office.

However, Iranian diplomacy soon after assured that Tehran had not yet decided to sign. “So far, Iran has not yet reached a final conclusion regarding the agreement”spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told Iranian state media.

    It’s 6 o’clock. Let’s take a first look at today’s news:

    • #MIDDLE EAST Agreement or no agreement? Tehran announced that it had not yet decided on the “deal” announced by the American president to end the war. Iranian diplomacy has thus tempered this new announcement from Donald Trump which mentioned a signature as soon as “this weekend”after the cancellation of the American strikes.
