In the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, April 8, Donald Trump announced that he would postpone his threat to attack Iran by two weeks and claims to have received a “viable” ten-point plan from Tehran. The American president specified that he was ready for a ceasefire if Iran completely reopens the vital Strait of Hormuz.

“After discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, during which they asked me to suspend the planned military intervention against Iran tonight, and provided that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the FULL, IMMEDIATE, and SECURE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombings and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks,” wrote the American president on his Truth Social platform, just over an hour before the expiration of his ultimatum.

The Republican leader had earlier threatened to eradicate “an entire civilization” if Iran did not unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest in a series of ultimatums issued by Donald Trump to Iran, and repeatedly postponed, gave Tehran until 8:00 p.m. in Washington (midnight GMT) to reopen the strategic maritime passage through which 20% of global oil passed before the war.

“It will be a mutual CEASEFIRE!” added Mr. Trump, who stated that the United States “has already achieved and exceeded all our military objectives” since the American-Israeli strikes launched on February 28.

He also mentioned “very advanced” discussions towards a “long-term” peace agreement with Iran, which has put forward a “10-point proposal” that “provides a viable basis for negotiation.”
