Following the 2-2 draw between AF Biars Bretenoux and Union Saint-Jean FC, the Biars team found themselves torn between the satisfaction of holding their own against a strong opposition and the frustration of missing out on inflicting only the second defeat of the season on the visitors.
Coach Patrick Gauthier commented, “Facing one of the top teams in the Régional 1 league, the AF Biars Bretenoux players were in the lead twice.”
“Encouraged by a supportive crowd, the players rose to the occasion. It’s a shame we were equalized twice,” said AFBB President Julien Ruard.
From the start of the match, the Biars team, who didn’t concede any clear chances in the first 45 minutes, scored just before halftime from a penalty by Keylian Teixeira.
“We played with our values”
“We retreated too much when leading,” observed the AFBB president, as the opposition scored the equalizer from a corner with twenty minutes left after a previous penalty save by Nathan Bouges.
Despite holding their ground, the Lotois regained the lead with four minutes remaining through a goal by Edgard Lacombe. However, the visitors equalized in the 95th minute from another corner kick.
“Against a strong team like Union Saint-Jean FC, we played with our values supported by our fans, but we made small mistakes that cost us against such a team. It’s up to us to correct these errors to continue growing,” concluded AFBB President Julien Ruard.
