This creation shared with the inhabitants of the region will take place along a 50 km stretch of the GR65, from Espeyrac to Livinhac-le-Haut, where the Compagnie de la Prairie was, this week, in immersion.

It’s almost thirty years since the adventure of Behind the Porthole took shape in railway land. And what an adventure! Both human and cultural. With quite a few ups and a few downs, but always with the same desire to keep culture alive in rural areas. Because culture should not be the sole prerogative of city dwellers in large metropolises and prefectures, where we too often and unfortunately cultivate the interior.

The taste for appearance and not really that of well-being. Thirty years since young Capdenac residents decided to take matters into their own hands to liven up their territory. This symbolic anniversary will be marked on September 26 with a Peasant Cabaret, co-written by Julie Desprairies and Fred Sancère. A new adventure, choreographic and human, carried by the association Behind the Hublot and the Artistic Factory of l’Essieu du Battut.

In the heart of the territories, on a 50 km stretch of the GR65, from Espeyrac to Livinhac-le-Haut, where the Compagnie de la Prairie has just spent a new week immersed, as part of a creative residency supported by the department of Aveyron, and Drac Occitanie.

Social connection and shared creation

Since 2024, the choreographer Julie Desprairies, accompanied by her accomplice Elise Ladoué, has taken up a long-term residency in Aveyron. An artistic residency “generating social bonds and shared creation”.

An expensive approach, from the start, Behind the Window. “Cabaret paysan is an extraordinary creation for 60 residents. The Cabaret paysan is not a show but a danced portrait of rural Aveyron, drawn through the bodies, landscapes and stories of those who live on the GR65 and its surroundings. Julie Desprairies will combine tradition and modernity, local know-how and creation contemporary, to reveal what connects people to places and to others.

The public will be invited to a big walk, from early morning to late evening, punctuated by cabaret numbers: dance performances, songs, stories, musical interventions, moments of magic and poetry. Each stage of the journey will highlight a facet of the place, each participant will become the interpreter of a common story.”

Thus, the inhabitants are not simple extras but co-creators. Julie Desprairies collects, suggests, experiments with them, transforming their know-how, their songs, their dances into choreographic elements. Each encounter, each gesture, each story becomes material for creation.

The Peasant Cabaret will take place from Espeyrarc to Livinhac-le-Haut, via Sénergues, the Route des Crêtes, on the heights of Firmi and Decazeville.
