Israel announced on Sunday June 21 the lifting in the north of the country, near the border with Lebanon, of all gathering restrictions linked to the war with pro-Iranian Hezbollah from Monday. “Following an assessment of the situation, it was decided to update the instructions”announced a branch of the army in a press release, after a lull in the fighting in southern Lebanon.
“As of 6 a.m. (5 a.m. Paris time) on Monday June 22, 2026, all restrictions will be lifted in the confrontation line area (…) and will move to a level of full activity, without any restrictions”details the press release.
“We will remain in the security zone of southern Lebanon for as long as necessary in order to protect the inhabitants of the north [d’Israël]who are dear to us, as well as all the citizens of the State“, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday during a ceremony in memory of his brother, who fell in combat in 1976. He added that “Whatever future diplomatic developments, I will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. As long as I am Prime Minister of Israel, this will not happen.”.
But the leader of Hezbollah, Naïm Qassem, refused any Israeli security zone in southern Lebanon. The maintenance of Israeli forces on Lebanese soil is “impossible” et “There are no safe zones for Israel”declared the leader of the pro-Iranian group in a televised address.
