The Belgium national soccer team, known as the Red Devils, traveled to Atlanta to face the United States in their first friendly match in preparation for the World Cup. Despite facing some challenges, the Red Devils ultimately emerged victorious with a score of 2-5.
The Red Devils began their journey towards the World Cup on Saturday night in Atlanta, taking on the United States. The Belgians were looking to reassure themselves, but the first half did not help their cause.
Senne Lammens put on a stellar performance against McKennie shortly after the 15-minute mark, facing a determined Weston McKennie. However, the American opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a well-placed header from a corner kick.
Despite being largely ineffective, the Belgians managed to respond just before halftime with an equalizer from Zeno Debast, who scored a stunning long-range strike to open his goal-scoring account for the national team.
In the second half, the Belgians showed improvement and managed to score their second goal through Amadou Onana with an axial shot. Following this, De Ketelaere made it 1-3 from the penalty spot, and Lukebakio added another goal to make it 1-4.
The player from Benfica continued his excellent performance by scoring again to make it 1-5 in the 81st minute. The Americans reduced the deficit five minutes later, bringing the final score to 2-5. Notable debut goals were also scored by Nathan De Cat, Mika Godts, and Nathan Ngoy, who were all substitutes.
The next matchup for the team will be against Mexico on the night of March 31st to April 1st.
