Nearly 5,000 police and gendarmes deployed in Paris for the Music Festival this Sunday

A large force, made up of 4,800 police officers and gendarmes and 2,500 firefighters, will be mobilized in Paris, on the occasion of the Music Festival this Sunday, June 21.

In total, 4,800 police officers and gendarmes as well as 2,500 firefighters are mobilized this Sunday, June 21, in Paris and its surrounding area to ensure the security of the Music Festival placed under close surveillance due to the heatwave, the Paris police headquarters (PP) announced on Saturday.

In a press release, the PP added that to prevent the risk of drowning, ten boats from the nautical brigade would be engaged and eight from the fire brigade.

In addition, the prefecture has decided to “avoid any risk of falling into the Seine, to prohibit undeclared gatherings, processions, parades on the lower quays from Sunday 3 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.”.

Consumption of alcohol prohibited

“These measures, specified the PP, concern the right bank of the Seine from Quai Henri IV to Quai des Tuileries inclusive as well as the left bank of Quai de la Tournelle up to Quai Malaquais inclusive”.

In accordance with the decisions taken in the morning by the interministerial crisis unit, the consumption of alcohol in the street and public spaces is prohibited from Sunday 7 a.m. to Monday the same time.

Météo-France has placed 35 departments (including those of Île-de-France) on heat wave red alert for Sunday, a record figure, the previous one being 20 departments on July 24 and 25, 2019.
