The memorandum concluded between Iran and the United States
Iran and the United States announced on June 14 that they had reached, as part of a negotiation process conducted under the mediation of Pakistan, a 14-point memorandum providing for an end to the war and the resolution of differences between the parties through negotiations.
This memorandum of understanding, called the “Islamabad Memorandum”, entered into force on June 18 after being signed digitally by Iranian President Massoud Pezechkian and American President Donald Trump.
The memorandum includes clauses such as ending the war, including in Lebanon, opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the naval blockade imposed by the United States on Iran.
Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the ceasefire
The Israeli army launched intense air strikes on Lebanon on March 2, occupying several locations in the south of the country.
The Lebanese government indicated during this period that the number of people displaced in the country had exceeded one million.
US President Donald Trump announced, in a statement on April 24, that the 10-day temporary ceasefire, which came into effect on April 17 between Lebanon and Israel, was extended for another 3 weeks.
At the end of the 3rd round of talks held between Lebanon and Israel on May 14 and 15 under the mediation of the United States, it was decided to extend the ceasefire by 45 days from May 17.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported in its latest report that 3,980 people had lost their lives in attacks carried out by Israel against the country since March 2.
The US State Department announced on June 3, at the end of the 4th round of talks in Washington, that Israel and Lebanon had reached an agreement on a “comprehensive ceasefire”, on the condition that Hezbollah completely ceases its attacks and withdraws all of its fighters south of the Litani River. Hezbollah, for its part, had made it known that it rejected this conditional ceasefire.
Furthermore, according to information relayed by the Israeli press, an Israeli official had affirmed that a new ceasefire with Hezbollah had come into force in Lebanon.
