The Swiss government announced the indefinite postponement of negotiations scheduled for Friday in the country between Tehran and Washington, intended to kick off a 60-day process to resolve the central issue of nuclear power.

The head of the Iranian negotiating team, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, insisted this Friday, June 19, on the need to respect Iran’s “red lines” during future talks with the United States.

“As we have demonstrated throughout the previous negotiations, we remain firm in respecting the conditions and red lines set, and in defending the interests of the Iranian nation,” declared the influential Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, quoted by the agency Irna.

“If the enemy proves excessive” in its demands, “we have proven that we are ready to retaliate and that we will not hesitate to inflict a scathing response,” added the man who is also the President of Parliament.

However, the week started on an optimistic note, with the announcement of a framework agreement to put an end to the conflict triggered on February 28 by the United States and Israel. The hostilities have left thousands dead, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, and shaken the world economy.

This protocol was signed electronically and remotely on Wednesday by Iranian Presidents Massoud Pezeshkian and American President Donald Trump. Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said in a written message on Thursday that he had approved it despite reservations.

Talks postponed

The Swiss government announced the indefinite postponement of negotiations scheduled for Friday in the country between Tehran and Washington, intended to kick off a 60-day process to resolve the central issue of nuclear power.

“Switzerland remains prepared to facilitate these discussions. The corresponding preparatory work is continuing,” announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a message sent to AFP, without providing details on a possible next date.

The meeting was initially scheduled to be held in a luxury hotel on Bürgenstock, a mountain overlooking Lake Lucerne. The cancellation a little earlier of the visit of American Vice-President JD Vance had already cast uncertainty over the holding of the talks. Just like that of the Pakistani envoy, mediator of the discussions, who will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday in Egypt with countries in the region.

Soldats israéliens blessés

The Israeli army announced early this morning the death of four of its soldiers, killed in a skirmish in southern Lebanon, its first losses since the signing of the agreement between Washington and Tehran supposed to lead to the end of the war in the Near and Middle East, on all fronts, including in Lebanon where Israel and the Islamist movement Hezbollah, an ally of Tehran, clash.

“For every tear shed by an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must cry,” added Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, a far-right figure and key political ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Later in the morning, the Israeli army announced that five officers and non-commissioned officers had been injured in strikes attributed to Hezbollah in Lebanon. “Following the impact of an explosive drone in southern Lebanon, an IDF reserve officer was seriously injured, while three reserve non-commissioned officers and one non-commissioned officer were lightly injured,” the army wrote Israeli on X.
