UPDATE ON THE SITUATION – New cross-border strikes between Russia and Ukraine from Friday night to Saturday, resulting in civilian casualties on both sides, including a child in Russia. Several Ukrainian regions were hit and infrastructure was damaged.
Russian airstrikes against Ukraine killed at least four people and damaged essential infrastructure from Friday night to Saturday, while a Ukrainian strike killed a child in Russia, local authorities announced. Russia has been conducting nighttime drone and missile bombings against Ukraine since its invasion launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022. Kiev accuses Moscow of attacking residential areas and targeting civilians. Le Figaro provides an update.
Massive Russian Strikes: Odessa Hit, Civilian Infrastructure Damaged
In the port city of Odessa in southern Ukraine, two people were killed and at least 13 others were injured, according to Sergui Lyssak, head of the local military administration. One strike hit the roof of a maternity hospital. Images released by Ukrainian emergency services show broken windows, debris inside the building, and firefighters at the scene of the attack.

“There was absolutely no military target – these were simple acts of terrorism against civilian lives,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on social media regarding the bombing in Odessa. A port in the Odessa region was also damaged by the strikes, with multiple impacts recorded on its infrastructure, according to Ukrainian port authority.
Russia launched 273 drones against Ukraine overnight, of which 252 were shot down, the Ukrainian air force reported on Saturday. Further north, in Kryvyi Rih, a man was killed in a morning strike that hit an industrial facility, said Oleksandr Ganja, head of the regional administration of Dnipro. He mentioned that fires had broken out on the site.
In the Poltava region (central Ukraine), a person was killed after Russian drones struck a residential building and industrial facilities, local authorities reported. “Every strike like this proves that Russia has no intention to end this war. That’s why any easing of pressure on it is dangerous,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukrainian Response in Russia: Child Killed, Expanded Drone Attacks
On the Russian side, a Ukrainian drone attack killed a child in Yaroslavl, north of Moscow and far from the front lines, according to local governor Mikhaïl Yevraïev.
Russian authorities stated that 155 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed in Russian airspace overnight. Since the beginning of its invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine daily, often resulting in civilian casualties. Kiev has also escalated its attacks on Russia, covering a wider area.
