A new masterpiece to further etch their names into history. A month and a half after their Olympic victory in Milan, they confirmed being the new rulers of ice dancing. On Saturday, March 28, in Prague, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron clinched the world title with impressive authority. A monumental performance for a duo still young, formed less than a year and a half ago but already entering a new realm. With technical mastery, grace, and emotional intensity, the French duo dominated the competition. An extraordinary demonstration, almost insolent.
They left no room for doubt. Leading significantly after the rhythm dance, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron delivered a free dance of rare purity, captivating the audience throughout their four-minute program. The verdict was clear: 230.81 points in total, a new personal record, after breaking their best scores in each segment (92.74 in rhythm, 138.07 in free). Behind them, the Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier were far, very far behind (211.52). A gap reflecting French dominance at the moment.
In just a few weeks, the French pair achieved what few couples in history can claim: Olympic-World Championship double (Cizeron-Papadakis in 2022 previously, Ponomarenko-Klimova in 1992 before). A resounding confirmation of their meteoric rise, skating together for only 14 months. For Guillaume Cizeron, it’s already a record-breaking sixth world title, after his five titles with Gabriella Papadakis, with whom he also won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022. For Laurence Fournier Beaudry, it’s a first world crown, at the peak of a daring and successful project.
Beyond the numbers, it’s their impressive storytelling, attention-capturing ability, and the way they enhance each note and gesture that impress. One question remains unanswered. As they mentioned in a press conference before these World Championships, with a post-Olympic blues context, their future together is not entirely decided. After winning gold in Milan and dominating the world in the Czech Republic, the next chapter of their adventure remains unwritten. Perhaps, already, to reinvent.
