In La Défense, GCC Construction is carrying out five wooden works of its own in the heavy restructuring of a tower from the 1970s.

In Paris La Défense, a tower built at the end of the 1970s is the subject of a major restructuring integratingintegrated wood production supported by GCC Construction. General contractor of the operation, the group is carrying out five wooden works on its own, from studies to installation, according to a press release published on June 15, 2026

The operation is carried out in a dense and constrained site, specifies GCC which is carrying out this type of work for the first time. The work is carried out by the company’s timber department and companions from the GCC Extens agency.

« Through the restructuring of this tower, GCC Construction demonstrates its ability to fully integrate wood into complex operations, by managing the entire value chain, from studies to implementation on site. This project illustrates a major evolution of our know-how, with own production which allows us to provide more mastery, precision and performance on works with high technical requirements “, declares Julien Antoine, director of GCC Construction.

Five structures in highly constrained locations

The five structures concerned are the mezzanine, the frame of the glass roof, the council room, the stands on the lower levels and the auditorium. According to the press release, these elements occupy “ strategic and highly constrained locations» and they need one «Âperfect mastery of interfaces» with the existing, metal structures, networks and other state bodies.

The frame of the patio glass roof, approximately 15 meters by 23 meters, rests on eight identical main beams each covering a span of 15 meters. These beams with variable inertia, ranging from 50 cm at the edge to 1 meter in the center, constitute the rafters of the glass roof. The whole is placed at a height of 13 meters and also includes 30 glued laminated wood purlins.

Located at the top of the tower, the future council room is based on a horizontal CLT structure supported by a glulam structure made up of 80 cm thick grid beams and 5 meter high posts. According to the press release, this work includes nearly 150 wooden elements and around a hundred fittings made by the GCC materials department.

At the lower levels, the wooden tiers combine intermediate concrete landings, wooden rafters equipped with samples acting as supports, as well as an installation of CLT in the upper part. The whole will then receive a finishing parquet floor. The auditorium will follow the same constructive principles.

« We are particularly proud to have supported and managed these wooden works, from design to final installation, with particular attention paid to the quality of construction, thus opening a new phase of development of finished wooden works produced in our own production » declares Gunther Peres, wood division director of GCC Construction.
