“I gave permission despite divergent opinion,†says Khamenei on signing Iran-US deal
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, claimed to have approved the agreement with the United States signed by President Massoud Pezeshkian, despite his “divergent opinion” on the subject.
“As you know, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the presidents of Iran and the United States of America. During the process leading to this step, the officials concerned have made significant efforts, driven by their sincere concern and good will,” he wrote on X.
“For my part, I had, in principle, a divergent opinion. However, due to the commitment made before me by the honorable President (Massoud Pezeshkian), in his capacity as Chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, on his behalf and on behalf of the other members of the Council, regarding the preservation of the rights of the Iranian nation and the Axis of Resistance, as well as its acceptance explicit of this responsibility, I gave my authorization,” he added.
The Iranian head of state assured that future negotiations with the United States will be held “face to face”. “He (Massoud Pezechkian) also clearly stated that if the American side sought to impose excessive demands, they would not comply,” he continued.
And to conclude: “From this moment on, we – that is to say you, the proud Iranian people, and myself, your humble servant – will await the realization of the above-mentioned conditions”.
