The Paris police headquarters has decided to ban the France Insoumise concert planned for Sunday at Place de la République in Paris due to the risk of disturbing public order. A decision that Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party decided to challenge by filing an appeal. On RMC, Alma Dufour is annoyed by this decision.

The Paris police headquarters says no to the rebels. Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s movement had planned to organize, on Sunday evening at Place de la République in Paris, an “anti-racist concert” for the Music Festival.

But in a decree published on Wednesday June 17, the Paris police chief banned the event, for risk of disturbing public order. Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounces “a serious democratic scandal during the electoral period”.

And LFI announces that it is filing an appeal. Rappers, a drag queen, and political speeches, this was the initial program presented by the rebels. But what poses a problem for the police headquarters is the presence also of Assa Traoré and the rapper Médine who is accused of inciting hatred. With the risk, assures the prefect, of attracting a public hostile to the police.

“Distressing level of amateurism from the Paris prefecture”

Invited this Thursday morning on RMC, Alma Dufour, LFI-NFP deputy for the 4th constituency of Seine-Maritime, deplored the ban on what is “especially a concert”. Especially since she assures that these two people mentioned are not included in the program. “What is very distressing is the level of amateurism of the Paris prefecture because we read the ban order which is motivated by the presence of people who do not perform at this concert. They will go to the march against racism organized earlier and authorized by the prefecture,” she points out.

She adds: “We are dismayed, we see it as a political order because we have been in discussion with the prefecture for at least two months. We do not do a concert at the Place de la République in Paris with all that that implies in terms of security without having had prior authorization from the State services.”

She tackles at the same time and questions the “shocking” holding of a concert on the Place du Trocadéro organized “by supporters of the policies of Netanyahu’s government”.

“It’s quite shocking, if we have to discuss who has the right to do a concert or not…”, she points out, without however calling for a ban.

“We know how to manage a concert”

In recent hours, many, including Ariel Weil, PS mayor of the center of Paris where the Place de la République is located, have been calling for this ban.

“I’m rather relieved. I think that in a context where there will be people everywhere in the street, if in addition we have to have police forces facing a political concert, it seemed very complicated to me and it was rather an ingredient for a potential disaster, the risk that there would be injuries, deaths… he indicates.

A democratic scandal outrages Hadrien Clouet, LFI deputy and close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon. His party urgently asks the courts to authorize the evening.

“This is an attack on freedom of expression. When we have a large-scale event, we generally have around a hundred people to secure and organize crowd management. Obviously we know how to manage a concert, maybe we even know how to do it better than the Paris police chief.

And the Paris administrative court should decide in the next few hours.
