The Music Festival will be held this Sunday, June 21, 2026. It will coincide with an intensification of the heatwave and the first values above 40°C! Faced with such heat, concern is increasing among the organizers.
Â
The hottest Music Festival ever!
This year, the first day of calendar summer – which coincides with the Music Festival – promises to be scorching! The heatwave will officially begin this Thursday, June 18, 2026 in many French regions but the intensification will occur this Sunday, June 21.
Under a blazing sun (almost no clouds), maximum temperatures will increase several degrees between the afternoon of Saturday and Sunday. Thus, it is confirmed that the threshold of 40 degrees will be reached in several regions French this June 21.
Generally speaking, maximum temperatures will display 35 à 40 degrésexcept in the regions bordering the Channel where the heat will be a little less pronounced. 40°C will probably be reached from the southwest to the Center region and certain models envisage peaks at 41°C or even 42°C !

If the festivities surrounding the Music Festival take place all day long, many take place in the evening. However, you should not count on cooling once the sun sets. After a scorching afternoon, the thermometer will take a long time to come down.
The map below shows the modeled temperatures at 9 p.m. this Sunday, June 21, 2026. We see thatit would still be over 30°C in two thirds of France! From Aquitaine to the Center region, the models envisage still often 33 to 35°C at 9 p.m. !
The regions bordering the Channel will be those which will offer the most appreciable conditions with temperatures between 20 and 25°C thanks to a small sea breeze cooling the atmosphere. More reasonable heat is also expected on the Mediterranean shores, again thanks to a light sea wind.

Towards numerous cancellations?
This is not the first time that France has faced excessively hot conditions during the Music Festival. We remember in particular June 21, 2017 but also – more recently – June 21, 2025 – where maximum temperatures reached 33 to 38°C over a large part of the country!
Already last year, some organizers chose to cancel certain concerts because of the heat. This year, temperatures will be a notch higher again, at unprecedented levels for June 21 in many regions of France. The question of holding the festivities therefore arises.
The Music Festival brings together hundreds or thousands of people in sometimes cramped places. The heat can be even worse experienced, particularly in large cities where the urban heat island makes the evenings even hotter. For the moment, cancellation decisions have not been made since the heatwave has not yet started and the alert has not yet been activated.

Already last year, severe heat disrupted the Music Festival
Â
The heat wave warning issued by Météo France will have obvious consequences on the holding – or not – of the Music Festival festivities. Remember that in the event of red level vigilance, cancellations would be more systematic and would be less subject to the discretion of the organizers.
