The organizing association of the Grammy Awards announced on Tuesday five new awards as well as rule changes likely to have an impact on certain highly coveted categories, in particular that of the revelation of the year.
The new categories created by the American Recording Industry Association, which organizes the famous musical ceremony, will reward the best Latin song, the best Asian pop music performance, the best R&B collaboration or duo or group performance, the best traditional pop vocal performance and the best traditional folk album.
These new awards will be awarded starting with the next ceremony, scheduled for February 2027 in Los Angeles. The total number of categories now reaches 100.
The Recording Academy has also changed some rules, including the number of times an artist can appear in the revelation category. Highly coveted, this prize rewards emerging talents and has notably been awarded to artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan and Olivia Dean. It will now be possible to enter up to four times, compared to three previously, allowing artists who have reached the limit to compete once again.
“The changes proposed by the members of our Recording Academy demonstrate the richness of today’s music industry and the multitude of genres, techniques and creators who shape it,” said the organization’s boss, Harvey Mason Jr., in a press release. He promised that the next ceremony would reflect “the extraordinary growth that the world of music is experiencing.”
Grammy nominations will be announced on November 16. (mbr/ats)
