In San Jose, California, Arizona Wildcats defeated Arkansas in a 109-88 victory during the NCAA Tournament, finally overcoming the Sweet 16 hurdle under coach Tommy Lloyd. Brayden Burries led with 23 points, supported by strong performances from freshmen Koa Peat and Ivan Kharchenkov. Arizona, the top seed with a record of 35-2, tied a school record for wins in a season and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2015. They will face Purdue next for a chance at the Final Four. Arizona made history with six players scoring at least 14 points in a NCAA Tournament game. Coach Lloyd, with 147 wins in his first five seasons, finally found success in the tournament after previous disappointments. The Wildcats breezed through this year’s tournament, apart from some tense moments in the second round. Freshman Darius Acuff Jr. shone for Arkansas with 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to top Arizona’s depth. Arkansas suffered technical fouls and an ejection during the game as their frustrations grew. Arizona had a strong offensive performance in the first half, shooting 64% from the field and securing a 54-43 lead. They continued to dominate in the second half, eventually securing the victory.
