Following their Olympic title, French skaters Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry from Montreal dominated the rhythmic dance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague on Friday. They appear to be well on their way to the world title after breaking their season record with 92.74 points for their program inspired by Madonna’s Vogue.

Heading into the free dance scheduled for Saturday, they hold a comfortable lead of over 6 points ahead of their closest competitors, Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (86.45), who won bronze at the recent Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

The French duo, already Olympic champions, have decided to continue competing for one last event after their Olympic success. Guillaume Cizeron could earn his sixth world title, while it would be a first for Laurence Fournier Beaudry.

Another pair of Canadian skaters, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, expressed satisfaction with their performance at the championships, placing 8th with 80.81 points after working hard to improve following their 10th place finish at the Olympics.

The article also mentions other contenders in the competition, including Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac who secured the 20th position with 69.70 points.

Later on Friday, the women will present their free program, with Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoto currently leading the pack after the short program. Canadian skater Madeline Schizas is in 15th place.

Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoto bid farewell to her competitive career with a fourth world title after delivering a graceful performance to Edith Piaf’s music. The podium also featured Mone Chiba from Japan winning silver and Nina Pinzarrone from Belgium claiming the bronze.

Canadian skater Madeline Schizas finished 15th with a total score of 178.29 points.
