From June 12 to 14, the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-brigade opened the doors of its Cavalry camp for three days of activities, demonstrations and meetings with the public.
Ten years are worth celebrating. This weekend, the 13e Demi-brigade de Légion étrangère (13e DBLE) opened the doors of its La Cavalerie camp to celebrate both the commemorations of the battle of Bir Hakeim and its decade of establishment on the Larzac plateau.
For three days, from June 12 to 14, residents and curious people were able to discover the regiment’s installations through numerous activities, demonstrations and exhibitions.
Demonstrations and activities for all
The first day was marked by commemorative ceremonies for the Battle of Bir Hakeim. In 1942, in the Libyan desert, the Free French Forces resisted attacks by German and Italian troops for more than two weeks. A major episode of the Second World War to which the Foreign Legion remains particularly attached.
Throughout the weekend, visitors were able to witness dynamic combat demonstrations as well as cynotechnical presentations featuring military dogs and their masters.
A ring had also been installed in the heart of the camp to host a boxing gala. Saturday’s day ended with music, while the Sunday program gave more pride of place to times of contemplation, including a mass, while retaining several military demonstrations.
Close to military equipment
At the same time, the public was able to wander freely within the camp grounds and enjoy numerous workshops and stands: stone and wood cutting, stained glass making, clay modeling, sports activities and even a treetop adventure course for children.
The youngest were also able to enjoy a funfair and a fair set up for the occasion. The firefighters were also there and introduced the children to how to use a fire hose.

Among the most popular attractions was the helicopter on display at the site, the interior of which was accessible to visitors. The curious could also board several armored vehicles and discover up close some of the equipment used by the military.

An opening to the public which testifies to the desire of the leaders of the Legion to strengthen the links forged with the territory since its installation in Larzac ten years ago.
