Gérard Jugnot had already come to inaugurate a room in his name in this cinema on March 14. But the cinema as a whole had not yet been officially inaugurated. It’s done. Ciné Pastel, which had opened its doors to Lavaur (Tarn) in February, hosted the traditional tricolor ribbon cutting. But it was also, and above all, an opportunity to rejoice in a thunderous start of operation.
As a reminder, the old cinema closed its doors in 2020 in the sixth most populous commune in the department (a little less than 11,000 inhabitants). The wait was therefore great on site. Especially since the new place, made up of the former Le Mylord nightclub and the former “Espace des nouveautés” cinema, at the corner of Allée Ferréol-Mazas and Rue Sainte-Cécile, now offersthree rooms and 404 seats. When there were only 192 before.
And the attendance was there for this 5 million euro facility (70% financed by the City). The new cinema officially aimed for 65,000 to 70,000 annual admissions. However, in three months, it has already reached half of this figure. “30,000 spectators in three months: that’s double our forecasts!”, the City welcomes.
And the rooftop?
Now all that remains is to enjoy the rooftop. The launch of this restaurant area on the roof terrace has been delayed. A call for tenders was launched in the spring for this project. It was extended by one month. Candidates have until June 15 to apply. Given the deadlines, its opening at the beginning of summer therefore seems difficult. But once opened, it will be an additional asset to attract movie buffs and perhaps cross the barrier of 100,000 annual spectators.
