When rurality rhymes with philharmonic orchestra
Demos, for Musical and orchestral education system with a social vocation, is a national system of the Philharmonie de Paris. It is aimed at children aged 7 to 12 to learn an instrument in an orchestra over three years. Everything is free, even the loan of the instrument. “My job is to coordinate all these little people, whether it’s planning, instrument logistics, room logistics, communication, administration, coordination, federation of actors… It’s very varied and I love it,” Marine continues. Passionate about music, she nevertheless chose not to be on stage but alongside it, supporting young people. “I’m not comfortable in front of the public, but I really enjoy allowing everything to happen perfectly for them. I brought my orchestra to the Rennes opera house! It was crazy!”, she smiles.
Cultural aspect and social aspect closely linked for Marine
When she discovers the reality of popular education, it is a revelation. “I couldn’t live without it, and I knew it was going to redefine how I would live my life,†she says. This approach still inspires it today in its way of welcoming children. “We no longer consider teaching without taking into account the family, school and social environment, to verify good learning conditions. I can no longer separate the two. The cultural aspect and the social aspect are extremely linked. There is no point in creating culture for anyone. Culture is done with people, for people and it comes from people too.”
