Karim Benzema reacted angrily
after a debate on the best number 9 in the history of French football.

Wednesday night, the After Foot launched a lively debate on
the identity of the greatest number 9 in the history of French football.
While some naturally mentioned Karim Benzema, a
RMC listener sided with another player: Thierry
Henry.

“The problem is that Benzema has a task in his
career, it’s with the
French team. He hasn’t really done anything.
He hasn’t left his mark on the French team. Okay, he
has done good things at the club level, won Champions Leagues,
won a Ballon d’Or, but I’m sorry, when we talk about
the French team, we would think more of a Thierry Henry for
example than a Karim Benzema,”
the listener stated.

Kevin Diaz shared the same opinion, placing the Arsenal legend
ahead of the former Lyon player: “For me, Thierry Henry is
a legend, he’s top 3 in French football behind Michel Platini
and Zinedine Zidane. The guy has a statue outside his stadium in London!
I don’t know if we realize that”
.

Benzema’s response

A response that didn’t go unnoticed by Karim Benzema. On
Instagram, the Al-Hilal striker replied: “Yes, some good things (he did at Real). But shut up!”,
responded Karim Benzema on Instagram, adding: “And the other
(Kevin Diaz) talks about status… Well, thanks. Salam to Walid and to your
friend (Elton Mokolo). People’s Ballon d’Or”.

Walid Acherchour, a contributor to the show,
defended Benzema’s record: “Spending ten years at the biggest
club in the world, Real Madrid, being in legendary teams,
being alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, winning that Ballon
d’Or with the greatest individual performance, he’s
the man who makes Real Madrid win. He’s a number 9 who
reinvented his position and I think he has left an indelible mark.
I believe his prime is far superior to that of Thierry Henry at the very
highest level. It’s a debatable topic.
