A little earlier in the day, Donald Trump had nevertheless declared that he wanted to strike Iran “very hard” and take control of the country’s oil infrastructure, including the island of Kharg, its main oil terminal.
American President Donald Trump announced on his social network this Thursday, June 11, the cancellation of the American strikes planned for this evening on Iran and spoke of signing an agreement with Iran “perhaps in Europe” in the coming days, “once the documents are finalized.”
“I have, as President of the United States of America, canceled tonight’s planned strikes and bombings against Iran. Discussions and final points have been approved,” he wrote on Truth Social.
A little later in the day, the American president, who spoke in the Oval Office, indicated that he would not attend the signing of the agreement with Iran, which he said could take place as early as “this weekend” in the presence of Vice-President JD Vance.
Before radically changing course, Donald Trump had promised to hit Iran “very hard” in the evening.
The 38th promise of an imminent agreement with Iran
“In the fairly near future, we will take the island of Kharg”, the main Iranian oil terminal, “as well as other oil infrastructures”, he assured at the start of the afternoon.
Faced with these threats, Tehran’s main negotiator and President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, castigated “inadequate strategies and impulsive decisions” which, according to him, would lead the United States “into an endless quagmire”.
New American attacks would lead to a “more extensive” war, warned the head of the Iranian armed forces, General Ali Abdollahi.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump had already promised an imminent agreement with Iran – for the 38th time since the start of the conflict according to a CNN count -, before changing his tone the next day, accusing the Iranians of “leading the United States by boat”.
