Culture in Dordogne: at the Ôrizons festival, a journey through music and tales

Friday June 12, two meetings will be on the program. At 7:30 p.m., “I am Shéhérazade,” a show where Lebanese storyteller Najoua Darwiche will paint portraits of women who resisted violence. At 8:30 p.m., Ariana Vafadari, Franco-Iranian mezzo-soprano, will perform her own compositions combining classical music, jazz and Persian traditions. She will be accompanied by Rusan Filiztek, Kurdish saz and oud player.

Hiba Najem will invite her audience to prepare tomato turnovers, “fatayer bi banadoura” in Lebanese, a sovereign remedy, it seems, against heartache. Then at 8:30 p.m., the Edemzi group will deliver its music at the crossroads of the traditions of the Maghreb, Armenia and jazz.

Sunday June 14, the festival will move to Grandes Fenêtres in Excideuil. At 4 p.m., Hiba Najem will embark on another culinary performance. During a reading, she will taste kaak, a Lebanese festive cake. And at 5 p.m., we will find Ghalia Benali in a duet with Mossa Kidan on Tuareg music themes.

In terms of shows, the Ôrizons festival is hosting another event on Friday June 19 at the Agora in Boulazac-Isle-Manoire for the concert by clarinetist Yom and the Ceccaldi brothers.
