The most wanted French citizen in the world possibly fled to the United States? This lead was revived after the issuance, on Wednesday, March 25, of a call to witnesses by a Texas sheriff’s office regarding Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, who disappeared after a family massacre in 2011 in Nantes.

Since his disappearance, there have been recurrent reports claiming to have spotted the fugitive in various locations, none of which have been confirmed.

This time, the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office in Texas posted a call to witnesses accompanied by several photos of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, who would now be 65 years old.

Known as “XDDL” by the press, he was possibly seen in 2020 in the county, accompanied by “a black labrador,” as stated by the sheriff’s office, urging anyone who recognizes him or has information about him to come forward.

According to former cyber-cop Gilles Galloux, author of “Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, a Cop at the Heart of the Case,” there are still “places in the United States where one can remain hidden near the Mexican border.”

The Nantes public prosecutor’s office stated on Thursday that they were not informed of the release of this call for witnesses. “Neither the investigating judge handling the case, nor myself, nor the detectives working on it from the beginning were informed of this call for witnesses by a Texan police service,” said Nantes Public Prosecutor Antoine Leroy.

Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is suspected of murdering his wife and four children in April 2011, whose bodies were found under the family home’s terrace in Nantes. He has never been found, and it remains unknown whether he is dead or in hiding.

In 2024, the Nantes public prosecutor’s office reported receiving and investigating over 1,750 reports about him in France and abroad.
