A vote for peace
First, I’ll refresh your memory. The United States has been locked in a war with Iran since February 28. This war, launched by Donald Trump and Israel, took everyone by surprise. Even American politicians had not been warned. Mr. Trump assured that this war should only last a few weeks. However, it is still not over, and it has caused an increase in the price of gasoline everywhere, among other things. So, among the American population, this war is really not popular.
Â
So, on June 3, politicians had to vote for or against a text, which is also called a “resolution”. This text read: “Congress directs the President to withdraw the armed forces of the United States from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Â
215 elected officials voted for this resolution, while 208 voted against. The resolution was therefore adopted. Interesting fact: of the 215 politicians who voted “Yes”, 4 were Republicans. This means they voted against the rest of their party.
Â
You should know that this text is mainly symbolic, because Trump could refuse to obey. This is because the American president has what is called a veto: he can block laws that he does not approve of. All the same, this vote shows that Congress is not satisfied with its management of the conflict in Iran.

Trump’s reaction
In a message posted on his social network Truth Social, President Donald Trump accused Republicans who voted “Yes” of being “bad Republicans.” He wrote:
