Before mid-March, the parents of the students from RPI Duravel, Soturac, Touzac, had learned about the threat of closure looming over a class at Duravel school for the upcoming school year. The parents of the students had called for a gathering this Tuesday, March 24th, at 8 a.m. in front of Duravel school, where elected officials were present.

The parents of the students are refusing the “bureaucratic decisions” of the national education system. They have mobilized and organized to maintain the three classes at Duravel school. Currently, the RPI has 52 students divided into four levels: CE1, CE2, CM1, and CM2. The closure of a class would merge the remaining two classes into a triple level, with approximately 26 students per class.

The parents of the students consider this prospect unacceptable for both students and teachers. They want to defend a quality school for all children in the area. On Tuesday, March 24th, they demonstrated their unity and intend to continue their actions with more support. Over 150 people participated in this first demonstration. “The action is just beginning,” they say.

In the Lot Valley, the schools of Duravel, Luzech, Puy-l’Évêque, and Castelfranc are also affected. The parents of the students in the area are considering contacting each other to expand and coordinate the movement.
