On Thursday June 4, 2026, the La Strada cinema in Decazeville in Aveyron hosted the very first edition of the inter-high school slam competition. It was the first year students of the professional sectors of the La Découverte high schools in Decazeville and the Métiers d’Aubin high schools who were competing against each other.
The meeting was at the La Strada cinema in Decazeville for… the 1st inter-high school slam competition, organized between the La Découverte high school in Decazeville and the high school of trades in Aubin.
The long-awaited moment for the twelve finalist students, ready to slam in front of the teachers (including some members of the jury) and their classmates.
Working on writing but not only…
This competition succeeded in seeing the light of day thanks to the will of several actors and first of all, Antonin Gissinger, alias Singa, facilitator in a writing and stage expression workshop. “I work with different audiences and my wish was to work with young students. I contacted the two professional establishments in Decazeville and Aubin and they were receptive to my proposal.”
Once the project was set up, four first professional classes followed ten hours of support each with Singa to work on slam, which is characterized as “an alliance of poetry and stage expression”, he indicates. A framework was defined at the start: the students had to address the theme of masculinity/femininity. Once this was established, “I supported everyone in the construction of their text. The writing work was an important element, but slam also requires a presence of space, you have to know how to embody your text”, explains Singa.
A challenge
Finalist, Diego Rouanet believes that “the slam exercise [m’a] allowed me to have more courage to [m’]express in front of others and this also helps me in daily life to use words better.”Â
Words that must be conveyed are not easy: “We also need to work on our voice, so that it transmits emotions, this involves finding a subject that interests us in order to be able to transmit these emotions more easily,” says Johémy Hennequet, 17, one of the finalists in the competition.

“That’s all the subtlety”, agrees Antonin Gissinger, and adds: “the subject treated is subjective and the author must succeed in putting it into words and at the same time transmit emotions to as many people as possible.”

Throughout this apprenticeship, the students put themselves in difficulty, which François Malgouyres, principal of the high school for wood and housing trades in Aubin, particularly appreciates: “an exercise putting the students in difficulty, we must emphasize this courage, but this has additional value in conveying their immodesty.” Â
At the end of this final, the jury delivered its verdict and it was… a young 17-year-old student from La Découverte high school in Decazeville, Johémy Hennequet, who finished on the 1st step of the podium. He is accompanied in 2nd place by Diégo Rouanet from the Lycée de la Découverte and Yann Gendron 3rd from the Lycée des Métiers d’Aubin.
