The CEO of Cooperative U Dominique Schelcher was the guest of La Grande interview Europe 1-CNews this Wednesday. At the microphone of Laurence Ferrari, he assures that the war in Iran has no impact on the shelves for the moment.Â
Inflation is back in the news. Since the start of the war in the Middle East and the surge in fuel prices at the pump, the French have been faced with an increase in their restricted spending. According to INSEE, last April, inflation was around 2.2% over one year. An increase that is still contained but which leaves consumers fearing a significant rise in prices between now and the start of the school year, particularly when the boss of E.Leclerc, Michel Edouard Leclerc, anticipates inflation of 4% by the end of the summer.
Invited this Wednesday morning on the set of La Grande interview Europe 1-CNews, the CEO of Cooperative U Dominique Schelcher calls for calm. “As of today, there is no impact of the war in Iran on prices in stores. Inflation is due to the increase in energy and fuels. Only that. But not food products for the moment.”
Avoid price increases as much as possible
“And I think that people have rather noticed declines in recent times which are the result of our commercial negotiations. Drugstore, perfumery and hygiene products have fallen. Wheat-based products have fallen. It is only meat or eggs, for example, which have been able to increase”, he continues.
“I have no sign to say that inflation will be at 4% at the start of the school year,” he insists to Laurence Ferrari. “There is no reopening of negotiations which would give rise to fears of an increase in general prices. And I will tell you, our whole job is to try to do everything so that that does not happen,” he concludes.
