Police identify man armed with knife who was shot, killed by West Chester officer

Police have identified a man who was armed with a knife when he was shot and killed by a West Chester police officer on Thursday night. The shooting happened on Zinnia Court, just off West Chester Road, in a busy area of West Chester Township, around 9:50 p.m.According to West Chester officials, officers responded after receiving a call from a nearby resident regarding a woman screaming for help at an apartment complex.At the scene, officers tried to make contact with the people inside the apartment by knocking on the door and announcing their presence. Officers decided to force entry into the apartment due to concerns for the safety of those inside. In body camera video shown by police on Friday night, the suspect can be seen inside a room with the woman, saying he had a knife to her neck and telling officers not to come inside the room.When police entered, one of the officers fired a single shot, hitting the suspect. On Friday night, police identified him as Lorenzo Miller, 39. No officers were injured in the incident.Police said Miller had a history of violent crimes, including aggravated murder, domestic violence and assault. Police said the woman involved was taken to UC Hospital West Chester and has since been released.Four officers who were involved in the incident were placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues. West Chester officials said that the case is now in the hands of state investigators, with the goal of ensuring all shared information is accurate.In addition to West Chester police, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and the coroner were present at the scene.
