the essential
The scents of spices, the generous flavors of biryani and the dazzling colors of Indian street food will be in the spotlight in Toulouse this Sunday. For its third edition, “La Mela des Dishes” invites the public on a culinary and cultural journey through the different regions of India, in the Lafourguette district.

Organized by the Indian Community Toulouse association, this biennial festival aims to introduce the public to the richness of Indian gastronomy, traditions and art. Supported by the Occitanie Region and the City of Toulouse, and included in the program for “Month of the World 2026”, the event aims above all to be a space for meeting and dialogue between cultures.

Launched in 2021 as part of the “Occitanie open to the world” program, “La Mela des dishes” has gradually established itself as one of the main events dedicated to Indian cuisine in the south of France. The first two editions attracted more than 1,750 visitors.

This year, the festival takes a new step by bringing together several international organizations from the Toulouse metropolis. A participation which reinforces its intercultural dimension and its ambition to promote exchanges between communities.

An immersion in Indian street food

From 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors will be able to browse the different stands run by volunteers representing various regions of India. On the menu: mango lassi, pani puri, gulab jamun and many other iconic Indian street food specialties, prepared by passionate amateur cooks.

Beyond the gastronomic discovery, the public will also be able to participate in artistic workshops and attend several cultural shows highlighting the diversity of Indian heritage. Open to all and with free access, the festival promises an afternoon dedicated to conviviality, sharing and discovery.
