the essential
From June 5 to 21, the Paul-Sibra Gallery is hosting “Off the beaten track”, an exhibition bringing together four artists from the Lauragais Painters. The opportunity to discover rich and resolutely personal artistic journeys.

The Lauragais painters invite the Paul-Sibra Gallery to the exhibition-meeting “Off the beaten track”, from today until June 21. An invitation to discover the unique universes of four artists who, each in their own way, have constructed a free, original and deeply personal work over the last three decades.

Far from passing fashions and artistic trends, Michel Baudet, Marie d’Uby, Lise Dufaur Mourens and Michel Sidobre present a selection of works emblematic of their career. Four sensitivities, four views on the world, united around the same demand for creation and of authenticity.

Passionate oil painter and musician, Michel Baudet has been exploring the mysteries of form and movement for several years. His work, nourished by the study of knots, interlacing and topology, gives birth to colorful compositions where rigor and spontaneity interact with poetry.

With Marie d’Uby (Marie-Luce Soubabère), the visitor enters a universe rich in symbols and references to ancient civilizations. Wood engravings, acrylics, invented writings, geometric or mythological figures make up an abundant work, where each creation seems to tell a story from another time.

Movement is at the heart of Lise Dufaur Mourens’ approach. Her inks on canvas capture the energy of the human body, particularly that of the dancer. Blurs, spirals and swirls extend the gesture and reveal a suspended moment, vibrating with light and contrasting colors. A painting where the body becomes the reflection of the soul.

Finally, Michel Sidobre’s metal sculptures bear witness to a remarkable work of transformation of the material. From used agricultural parts, steel or stone, the artist creates dreamlike characters and enigmatic shapes that seem to defy the constraints of the material from which they come.

This exhibition also highlights the participants in the artistic workshops of the Lauragais Painters, led by Jean-Pierre Baïlé and Julie Fenoul, who will present a selection of creations made during the 2025-2026 season by the participants in these two workshops.

The opening will take place this evening at 6 p.m. and will remain open every day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The highlight of this event, the screening of the film “Bruegel, the Mill and the Cross” by Lech Majewski is scheduled for Saturday June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Véo Cinéma. A visually fascinating work which plunges the viewer into the heart of the famous painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and extends the reflection on the artistic gaze.

For more than two weeks, this exhibition promises a true journey through the imagination, memory and matter, carried by artists who have always chosen to move resolutely… off the beaten track.

Lauragais painters at the service of creation

Established in Castelnaudary since 1967, the association Les Artistes Peintures du Lauragais has been working for almost sixty years to promote the visual arts in Lauragais with the noble ambition of introducing the public to the richness and diversity of contemporary artistic creation. Over the years, the association has organized numerous fairs, thematic exhibitions and artistic meetings, promoting exchanges between artists and visitors. Its events highlight the technical quality, originality and creativity of the works presented. Very active in the region, it also offers drawing, painting and sculpture workshops in Castelnaudary, thus contributing. to transmit artistic practice to as many people as possible. The exhibition “Off the beaten track” is part of this constant desire to share art in all its forms and to bring culture to life in Lauragais.
