The Praticable Company, directed by Olivier Costa, presents “13! “, a contemporary and impactful reinterpretation of 12 Angry Men. Twelve students from the Nîmes Conservatory will take the stage, in Redessan and Rodilhan, to encourage the public to think about justice, prejudice and collective responsibility.
Through “13 !”the Compagnie Praticable, directed by Olivier Costa, questions: can we still believe in justice? The play highlights the mechanisms of doubt, cognitive biases and moral conflicts that run through every decision. The jurors’ initial certainties crack over the course of the exchanges, revealing prejudices, fear, or even the desire to get it over with quickly. The spectacle thus becomes a mirror held up to society, where reason fights against emotion, and the law against humanity.
The adaptation, anchored in a France of 2028, transposes Reginald Rose’s classic into a current context, where political and social issues resonate powerfully. Here, there are no spectacular effects: all that matters is the acting, the power of words and collective tension. The public is immersed in a closed session where twelve jurors must decide the fate of a young man accused of a seemingly irrefutable crime.
Faithful to the dramatic structure of the original, “13 !” updates the dialogues, integrates the diversity of roles and anchors the plot in the French judicial system. The objective? Make the conflict hot, close, and uncomfortable. As the company points out, “judging is a daily act”et “voting is never neutral”. Before condemning, we must accept to doubt.
Wednesday June 10 at 8:30 p.m., the Numa-Gleizes hall in Redessan will host the first performance of « 13 ! ». A second date is planned for Wednesday June 27, same time, at the Bernard-Fabre cultural space in Rodilhan. Admission is free and free, recommended for audiences of at least 13 years old, for a show lasting 1 hour 15 minutes.
