Volodymyr Zelensky offers Vladimir Putin a one-on-one meeting, the Kremlin assures that he can come to Moscow “at any time”

The Ukrainian president proposed in an open letter a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in order to negotiate with him to end the war. Donald Trump, for his part, assured that a meeting between the two presidents would be “great”.

This Thursday, June 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in an open letter in which he also offers a “complete ceasefire” while negotiations take place to end the war.

“Ukraine proposes to end this war through direct engagement between you and us. I propose a meeting,” wrote Volodymyr Zelensky in this letter addressed to Vladimir Putin, adding that kyiv was “ready for a complete ceasefire for the duration of the negotiations.”

For its part, the Kremlin has assured that Volodymyr Zelensky can meet Vladimir Putin “at any time” in Moscow.

“Zelensky can come to Moscow at any time,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in comments cited by Russian state media, adding that the Russian president had not yet seen the letter in question.

“I’m glad they’re talking about meeting.”

In reaction to this proposal, American President Donald Trump assured that a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents would be “great”.

“I’m delighted that they’re talking about meeting. I think we have something to do with it (…) I think it would be great for them to meet,” declared the American president from the Oval Office.

kyiv has repeatedly proposed an extended ceasefire to encourage negotiations. But Moscow rejects this idea, arguing that it would allow the Ukrainian army to strengthen.

Vladimir Putin has already said that he would only be ready for a meeting with Volodmyr Zelensky once a peace agreement has been finalized.

The Russian president, who was finishing a meeting with the foreign press in St. Petersburg at the time of the letter’s publication, did not react immediately.
