Mateo Retegui & Sky shared his thoughts the day before the Italy-Northern Ireland match, a qualifying playoff for the 2026 World Cup:

“I arrived a week ago. As soon as I found out I had ten free days in Arabia, I discussed it with the coach and we arranged for me to come here to Florence to train at Coverciano. It seemed like the most logical and fair thing to do to be close to the national team’s pitch, to be available a little earlier. For that, I must thank the coach and the two trainers who came with me a week before.”

“I don’t know if ‘impatience’ is the right word to describe what I personally feel. I really want to play this match, since the end of the match against Norway in Milan. We all want to play this match. So there is eagerness, the desire to play, the desire to win, to show everyone that the team is ready, that the team is doing things very well.”

“We know that these are the matches that are won by those with the most determination. We know it will be a tough match, we will have to fight until the end. We are not alone because we are playing at home, Bergamo is a stadium that pushes us further. So we need to stay calm, do what we have done in training, there is no other result than winning.”
