It was a little over 13 h this Thursday 4 June when screams and smoke bombs erupted in front of the Ferney-Voltaire high school, avenue des Sports. Then everything happened very quickly : the arrival of municipal police cars and gendarmes who immediately closed the gates of the international school complex.
High school students, supposedly “celebrating” the last day of classes, threw firecrackers and mortar fireworks into the air and towards the police, triggering crowd movements. At 15Â h the arrival of two mobile police vans protected the high school and pushed back the high school students. Then, black smoke invaded the sky. A car was set on fire and the fire spread to two neighboring vehicles. Two high school students, adults, were arrested and placed in police custody. Calm was restored by mid-afternoon.
