The Japanese animation cinema fascinates and gains popularity with the French audience every year. In Paris, fans of this cinematic genre and the curious alike will be delighted to learn that a XXL retrospective called Japanime Mania is taking place, starting from August 30, 2025, and throughout the year 2026, to rediscover the best of the feature films from Studio Ghibli.
Three cinemas contribute to this retrospective – Mk2 Bibliothèque in partnership with Centre Pompidou, Mk2 Odéon, and Mk2 Gambetta. Masterpieces by Hayao Miyazaki, Goro Miyazaki, or Hiromasa Yonebayashi are shown on the big screen in dark rooms. It’s a unique opportunity to rediscover “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Castle in the Sky,” “Ponyo on the Cliff,” “Tales from Earthsea,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” “The Boy and the Beast,” and many other films.
The Studio Ghibli was founded in the 1980s by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. “Castle in the Sky” was the first official film produced by the studio. Targeting an audience of all ages, they have shaken the world of cinema with high-quality feature films that still resonate with viewers worldwide. Will we see you at the cinema on Sunday?
